Role Overview
We are hiring English-native Content Writers who can:
- Research and write well-structured articles and guides about life in Japan (housing, jobs, visas, money, daily life, culture, etc.)
- Turn complex topics (visas, contracts, procedures, etc.) into simple and accurate explanations
- Follow our editorial guidelines and SEO briefs, while keeping a natural, human voice
- Work closely with our Media Director / Content Lead and deliver on deadlines
This role is perfect for writers who enjoy helping people, know (or want to learn) the realities of life in Japan, and care about quality over clickbait.
Key Responsibilities
- Write articles, guides, checklists, and interviews in native-level English
- Research topics using trustworthy sources and, when needed, simple interviews
- Follow content briefs, keyword guidelines, and structure provided by the Content Lead
- Self-edit for clarity, accuracy, and tone before submitting drafts
- Revise content based on editor feedback and style guidelines
- Propose new content ideas based on reader needs and search demand
- Collaborate with the team via chat / online tools to keep projects moving smoothly
What We’re Looking For
Must-haves
- Native-level English writing ability
- Proven experience as a content writer, copywriter, journalist, or similar role
- Portfolio with published articles in English (blogs, media, company content, etc.)
- Ability to write clear, structured, and practical content (not just opinion pieces)
- Strong research skills and attention to detail (no guesswork, no plagiarism)
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond to feedback professionally
Nice-to-haves
- Experience living in Japan or writing about Japan / international life
- Basic understanding of SEO writing (search intent, headings, internal links, etc.)
- Experience writing for expats / international audiences
- Familiarity with Notion, Google Docs, or other collaboration tools
Working Style & Compensation
- Contract type: Full-time or long-term freelance (to be discussed during interview)
- Location: Tokyo-based or remote within Japan (overseas possible for the right candidate)
- Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and writing quality (per article or monthly rate)
